Our emcee for the event this year is Carine Clark, CEO of Allegiance.

UVEF’s Top 25 Under Five Awards have recognized the development of more than 200 individuals and companies, including Utah success stories like ZAGG, Agel Enterprises, Allegiance, Interbank FX, Seastone, Altiris, Omniture, and Xango among many others.

Applicants are judged on several factors including revenue and job creation.

Ten companies have been selected to participate in the First Annual Todd’s Top Ten. This exciting UVEF event, funded by a generous gift from Todd Pedersen, provides prize money to top-performing Utah Valley student startup companies. In addition to the prize money, Todd Pedersen will pick four companies from among the top ten competitors to provide instant feedback and ask questions.

How it Works: 10 businesses are selected to compete (selected from previous Valley competitions). Each business will present a 4X4 pitch – four slides in four minutes — to our attending audience. Attendees and watchers from across the Internet will vote online for a single Top Gun crowd favorite. (The URL will be announced at the event).

Prizes will be awarded:

• Four companies will be selected by Todd Pedersen to receive input and answer questions for five minutes each, on the spot.
• Nine companies will receive a cash award of $500.
• The Top Gun crowd favorite company receives a cash award, $4,500. No strings attached, and a one-on-one coaching session with Todd Pedersen!

Other startup and seed capital investors in attendance may also engage with the competitors privately after the event.

DIGITAL APPLICATION GUIDELINES

The Utah Valley Entrepreneurial Forum (UVEF) seeks to recognize the best emerging companies established by entrepreneurs in the state of Utah. The purpose of this event is to promote those companies who may become leaders in their fields in the state, the region and globally. The winners will be selected privately by a panel of the Board of Directors of UVEF.

• In order to qualify the company must have no revenues prior to January 1, 2008.
• All information that is submitted will be treated confidentially.
• Please complete the information on this form and submit it no later than Monday, June 17, 2013.
• Winners will be recognized at the UVEF Award luncheon on July 11, 2013.
• Only companies with representatives present will be recognized.

Utah Seed Fund Summit
June 13, Noon to 1:30 p.m. -Location to be announced.

This is our annual Funding Panel event with a new focus on seed funding and connecting entrepreneurs to local sources of startup funding. We are hosting a panel of early-stage seed funders who will help us better understand the requirements, and how best to apply for a round of seed funding.

We are hosting the following seed funding organizations, each of which has a fund of less than $50 million, and a history of funding less than $2 million in any single company at one time, and who are actively writing checks for $50k or more:

Garrett Gee founded a company in his entrepreneurship class at BYU, entered the business plan competition, did well, and then launched the product amid a field of 300 competitors The first hours after being launched, 2,000 users downloaded the mobile app. Within months users were in the millions, and today Scan has had over 30 million downloads.

Attend the April UVEF meeting and learn how Scan has achieved millions of users and millions of dollars in investment capital through spectacular user growth. After spending more than a year in Silicon Valley, Scan is now back in Provo to build the company in Utah Valley!

Definition: n. growth hacker. Growth Hacking is the process and mindset of searching for ways that your product to grow. It’s kind of like a mix between engineering and marketing. The key is to find untapped channels of customers that are motivated to use your product.

Growth hacking is generally associated with low cost, inbound marketing solutions that might not be as obvious to somebody who is non-technical. These solutions tend to be digitally-focused and quantitative in nature.
